Night Guards and Sports Guards in Cudahy CA
Night Guards:
Adults and children who grind and or clench their teeth at night should have a custom night guard made to prevent tooth damage. Most people are not aware of their bruxism (grinding). A sleeping partner or parent may notice the behavior first, although sufferers may notice pain symptoms without understanding the cause. Only a small percentage of people have pain associated with bruxism. Bruxism is the leading cause of occlusal trauma, a significant cause of loss of tooth structure, crack lines and fractures of teeth and gum recession.
Symptoms:
- Anxiety, stress, and tension
- Headaches and Migraines
- Neck pain
- Earache
- Tinnitus
- Gum recession
- Sore or painful jaw
- Loose teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- worn down teeth
- cracked filling
- soreness of facial muscles
- TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder)
If you have any of the above symptoms or you have noticed that you grind your teeth or someone has told you that you grind your teeth, we are here to help you restore your teeth and find treatment options that prevent bruxism.
Every person may have different factors contributing to teeth grinding and clenching, but here are some options for preventing the condition:
- Get a custom mouth guard to protect your teeth from grinding while you sleep
- Have awareness of when you are clenching your teeth in traffic, at work, and at other times and remind yourself to relax your jaw
- Take steps to manage stress at the work or home
- Incorporate self-care such as meditation, exercise, healthy diet, good sleep, and other lifestyle habits that will reduce stress in your life
- Avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages in the hours before bedtime
- Avoid alcohol in the couple of hours before bedtime
- Ask your doctor if bruxism is a side effect of any of your current medications
- Ask your doctor if bruxism is a symptom of any of your current health conditions
If caught early, you can prevent further damage to your teeth and your jaw joint (TMJ) and prevent extensive dental treatment in order to fix the problem. For a free evaluation to check if you do grind and have damages to your teeth, please call for an appointment (323) 771-7254.
Sports Guard or Mouth Guard:
Mouth guards should be used by anyone (children and adults) who play contact sports such as football, basketball, boxing, soccer, ice hockey, and field hockey. However, even those participating in noncontact sports (for example, gymnastics) and any recreational activity (skateboarding, mountain biking) that might pose a risk of injury to the mouth and teeth would benefit from wearing a protective mouth guard. An effective mouth guard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
