Night Guards and Sports Guards
Night Guards:
Adults and children who grind and or clench their teeth at night should have a custom night guard made to prevent tooth damage. Most people are not aware of their bruxism (grinding). A sleeping partner or parent may notice the behavior first, although sufferers may notice pain symptoms without understanding the cause. Only a small percentage of people have pain associated with bruxism. Bruxism is the leading cause of occlusal trauma, a significant cause of loss of tooth structure, crack lines and fractures of teeth and gum recession.
Symptoms:
- Anxiety, stress, and tension
- Headaches and Migraines
- Neck pain
- Earache
- Tinnitus
- Gum recession
- Sore or painful jaw
- Loose teeth
If caught early, you can prevent further damage to your teeth and your jaw joint (TMJ) and prevent extensive dental treatment in order to fix the problem. For a free evaluation to check if you do grind and have damages to your teeth, please call for an appointment (323) 771-7254.
Sports Guard or Mouth Guard:
Mouth guards should be used by anyone (children and adults) who play contact sports such as football, basketball, boxing, soccer, ice hockey, and field hockey. However, even those participating in noncontact sports (for example, gymnastics) and any recreational activity (skateboarding, mountain biking) that might pose a risk of injury to the mouth and teeth would benefit from wearing a protective mouth guard. An effective mouth guard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
